Yan and I recently went to a short vacation to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo Mexico, and one of the exploring we partake is a day trip to Isla Mujeres (Island of Women). Our home base during a trip was a condo we rented on Airbnb, which is located just 3 blocks off the famous 5th avenue in Playa del Carmen, such place is conveniently located next to the beach and to the tons of restaurants, bars and fun 5th avenue have to offer.
We drove from Playa del Carmen to Puerto Juarez in Cancun and then took the ferry to the island, we paid about $9 USD per person to the island. The ferry ride took about 17 minutes from Puerto Juarez to Isla Mujeres, here is a map I tracked on my watch during the ferry ride.
When you get to Isla Mujeres be ready to the influx of locals trying to sell you activities or rentals. The most popular way to get around the island is true golf carts or mopeds, golf cart rentals ranges from 15 for an hour to 45 dollars if you book the golf cart in advance for 24 hours. We did the more unconventional way and rented some pretty old single gear bikes to bike around the island going around the island is about 10 miles depending on how you go around it. Pretty fun time biking around going thru the neighborhood and pretty good scenery along the route playa Norte, Punta Sur to name a few there are also some great local restaurants and a short zip line you could par take in Punta Sur. Here is the bike route around and some snaps we took along the way.

After the ride around the island we decided to chill at playa Norte, Yan was able to persuade the beach chair guys to let us rent 2 beach chairs for P100 Mexican pesos instead of P400 each Ohhh and never forget to apply and re-apply sun screen during the whole bike around or whatever mode of transport you decide to use around the island.
